The way that people find businesses today has completely evolved from what it was just a short time ago. I can’t even remember the last time that I opened a phone book, or even saw one for that matter. I’m sure that they still make them, but they’re pretty useless unless you need to hit someone with something heavy. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO puts you on top of the list of the World Wide Web’s search results, the place where people actually look to find what they need.
When people need to buy a good or service, they open their web browser and type in what they want. If they want to go bowling, they will search for a bowling alley in their town. If they want to do laundry, they search for a laundromat… If they want to both at the same time they might search “Bowl-Dromat”… which I’m pretty sure doesn’t exist, but it would be cool if it did.
Whoever comes up on top of this search is going to get a LOT of business, and they’re going to get it for FREE! When I registered my most recent LLC, Yellow Pages contacted me wanting to sell me a directory listing for 300 or so dollars per year. I laughed at the sales guy until he hung up the phone. Anyone who doesn’t realize that SEO is the most efficient way to get business is now a dinosaur, and they will be left behind… an entity in the past.
How does it all work? Its actually really funny to note how many people know absolutely nothing about SEO. If you’re one of those folks, you are in the vast majority. Id say 99 percent of people have no idea. 97 percent of people probably never even think to hire someone to take care of it for them. (I’m making these statistics up, but even if they’re only partially true, it leaves a massive opportunity for anyone looking to take over a given series of keywords). “Keywords” are a great place to start your education if you want to know “how it’s done”.
The first thing that we do is selecting the keywords that you want to go for. A keyword is the exact phrase that you would type into a Google search bar in order to get whatever it is that you want. Selecting these keywords is incredibly important. For example, you might think it would be great to rank number one for “NJ Bowling Alley”… almost like it would make you definitively the number one bowling alley in NJ. Yay… I guess.
Unfortunately, when people want to bowl, they don’t want to travel too far, so searching for every bowling alley in NJ with the search term “NJ Bowling Alley” wouldn’t be efficient. They would probably search for something like, “Bowling alley in Middletown NJ”. In this case a much more specific keyword would get far better results. Helping you pick these specific search terms is where we start in the SEO process.
The next stage of work is done on your site itself. Ideally your website already has a keyword in the URL. For example www.MiddletownBowling.com would be great for a bowling alley in Middletown. You also want a keyword in your “Title” tag. Your title tag is the blue link that people actually click on when they’ve searched for something. The blue and underlined links in the image below are the written out version of your Title Tag. If I search Middletown bowling and I see the top result in blue underlined text as Middletown bowling – the Awesomest bowling alley in Middletown NJ, I would certainly click on it, because it seems to be exactly what I want. More importantly, making sure to have the keywords Middletown Bowling and Bowling Alley In Middletown NJ will do a tremendous job of boosting your keyword specific results.
After this, the crazy work begins. The game becomes all about building Back-Links the point to your website. For example, if you are a member of a bowling forum and someone posts “Hey check out www.MiddletownBowling.com, that blue text represents a Link back to your site… Obviously known as a back-link, since it points back to you.
The more of these you have, plus solid keyword structure on your site, equals high rankings. Some links are more relevant than others, and you need all different kinds. They should come from web directories, article databases, blogs, video sites, web 2.0 properties, forums, and social bookmarks to start. Websites that end in .Gov and .Edu have very powerful links, since Universities and our Government should be credible sources of information. There are sneaky ways that you get get these links.
You need to build tens of thousands of links, and then it wouldn’t hurt to send a few thousand links to each of your ten thousand backlinks. When you have a huge system of backlinks, and than you take some extra time to send backlinks to your backlinks, you have a huge network of information leading back to you. This is how Google decides if you are relevant or not… how much leads back to YOU.
This is what we do at SEO Powerhouse, and we do it in the most discreet, effective, and efficient way possible. Abuse of SEO and using “black hat” techniques will get your website banned, and we go to insane levels to make sure your site gets only the safest, most natural, approvable link building structures available. Other companies have managed to get hundreds of websites banned completely from Google. We currently boast a ZERO percent ban rate… Never once have any of our client’s websites been de-indexed, and we achieve that by NEVER TAKING SHORTCUTS.
We create sound content on your behalf, distribute it in a natural way, and arrange a very organic link building structure that Google will love and appreciate. For example, we might make a video and post it up on 90 websites that offer the ability to post videos. Each of those video pages has a link back to your website, Google counts that as +1 in the link department AND if people like the video, they can find more information about you on your website… by following the link.
After a while, it’s a numbers game. Either you have the most links, or your opponent does. You have to decide whether to be buried under a pile of Yellow Pages, or at the top of the Internet.
